Pastel Nagomi Art

202

Although Covid-19 is more under control now, the epidemic has indeed caused a lot of impact on our daily life and mental health. I still remember at the early stage of pandemic, there were wide-spread panic among the community, classes were suspected and people had to work from home, different measures of social distancing were enforced, our plans and routines were disrupted. As times went by, people became fatigue in fighting against the pandemic, and different types and levels of mental health concerns arised. As a psychologist, I was of no exception and felt quite down and trapped at that time. I realized that I had to make some changes to adjust for this "unchangeable/uncontrollable circumstances". One of the few changes I decided to make was to "create" my own Me Time. It was when I came to my first lesson in Pastel Nagomi Art, and felll in love with it at once.

Pastel Nagomi Art was founded by Mr. Takashi Hosoya from Japan. He hoped that through simple tools and drawing skills, people of different ages and who have no art background can also create beautiful drawings and express their emotions, and through the process, we pass on hope to others and heal ourselves.

As we draw, by sensing the touch at our fingertips, observing the changes of color tones, and projecting your thoughts and feelings into the picture, you can draw in whatever ways you want, and there is not any right or wrong strokes. The whole drawing process is actually very mindful, and it allows our minds to be calmed, and helps us to enter the state of "flow". With the drawing made, we will appreciate our own work, or may share it with our friends and family. Either way bring joy and sense of satisfaction.

If you are also thinking about how to make good use of Me time or want to develop a healthy interest to manage stress, you can give a try to Pastel Nagomi Art!

We hold Pastel Nagomi Art experiential class monthly. Combining with mindfulness practice or Christian devotion, we hope to provide a quiet and relaxing space for you to nurture yourself and regain your strength.
